Take Care of Your Lawn

Basic Lawn Care Tips

A well-maintained lawn is a reflection of a well-maintained home. To preserve your outdoor space, round-year maintenance is needed. If you fail to follow a maintenance routine, your grass can become overgrown and can get infested with weeds and outdoor pests. Follow these basic lawn care tips to keep your outdoor space green and healthy.

Weed, Thatch and Moss Removal

Weeds block air and nutrients from getting to the roots of your grass, thereby preventing healthy grass growth. As soon as you see this pesky items, pull it out so as to stop it from terrorizing your lawn. You can do this by hand or using a tool. To completely put off weed growth, it’s important to apply a low toxicity herbicide in early spring. Another pesky organic matter is thatch. It consists of dead leaves, grass and root stem that can build up between the leaves and the soil. The best solution to remove this is by raking and removing mulch from your lawn.

Mowing

Mowing decreases weeds and increases the density of your lawn. In essence, mowing is pruning. Take note that you only have to remove one-third of the grass length. If you have newly-seeded grass, you have to make sure that it is three to four weeks old before mowing it for the first time; they have tender grass blades and are easily damaged by a mower.

Watering

For healthy and green grass, your lawn needs one inch of water every week. Avoid over-watering as it contributes to fungal growth and lawn diseases. As recommended, deep and infrequent sprinkler application is better than frequent, shallow watering. An irrigation system is helpful as you can control the water. You might want to consult a landscaping contractor about it.

Make sure you follow these basic tips to keep your lawn looking lush and healthy. If you have any other questions about lawn care, feel free to contact Chips Clips Lawn Care and Snow Removal at (701) 248-6753. We are a landscaping contractor offering lawn maintenance services in West Fargo, ND.
